There has been a lot of trial and error with my 3D printing. I recommend visiting a MakerSpace (like Melbourne MakerSpace, FL) to try out their printers first and learn the software and limitations. The part I dread is always needing to level the print bed (treated with hair spray to make the plastic stick); failing to do that results in a mess like you see below:
